This week’s podcast saw Alex MacCaw talk about why he’s sailing around the world building another note taking app, Reflect. Having gone down the VC route previously, growing Clearbit to an 8 figure business, he’s now looking for a more lifestyle approach.
💡 Takeaways from this episode
- You don’t need to go to University/College to run a tech company. Traditional education doesn’t teach you programming, hacking away on side-projects does. I’m pretty sure we can all agree with that.
- He’s building another note taking app for himself. This traditionally isn’t good advice. Find a problem and other people that have that problem. Luckily Alex found a lot of people who also wanted a different type of note taking app.
- Alex thinks you should build what you enjoy. You’re going to spend years of your life on this thing, so make sure it’s something you really want to do. Many indie founders go for the multiple projects approach so don’t have to worry about this. Others enjoy the process of building and would rather pick a growing niche. All approaches can work.
